For this project, teams were tasked with designing a supertall skyscraper alongside an atmospheric water generator that uses a super hygroscopic polymer film (SHPF) which absorbs and desorbs water at specific temperatures. Our aim was to create a working generator which absorbs moisture in the atmosphere and condense the moisture into liquid water. Throughout the earlier stages of the project, we worked in teams of two and explored a skyscraper design with a pleated surface to redirect wind direction and maximize surfaces exposed to the sun for a potentially passive atmospheric water generator system. Afterwards we were paired into teams of four, where I was responsible for designing and constructing a functioning model for the atmospheric water generator. The design was formally inspired by our skyscraper's geometry, and tried to channel a chimney effect to funnel air into the system. On one side are nitinol springs which when charged, either open or close the system for absorption and condensations stages. Ultimately our model was successful in condensing water on the surface of our drainage tube.
